What is a “fancy font” generator?

Strictly speaking, it is not a font at all. Unicode contains several complete alphabets that look like decorations: mathematical bold, script, blackletter, double-struck, circled and squared letters, small capitals, superscripts and so on. A generator simply swaps every letter you type for the matching symbol from one of those alphabets. Because the symbols are ordinary characters, they travel through copy and paste and appear identical on every phone and computer — no file to install, nothing to encode.

That is also why some styles look bolder than others but never change weight gradually: there is no font file to adjust, only a fixed set of shapes.

Where the styles come from

  • Serif 3 styles — Classic book-weight shapes with mathematical serif glyphs.
  • Script 2 styles — Handwriting loops — the most requested Instagram look.
  • Gothic 2 styles — Blackletter / Old English letters, heavy and decorative.
  • Outline 1 styles — Double-struck letters that read like an outline face.
  • Sans 5 styles — Clean geometric letters, easier to read at small sizes.
  • Wide 1 styles — Full-width forms that space the text out across a bio.
  • Caps 1 styles — Small capitals — all the emphasis, none of the shouting.
  • Symbol 5 styles — Circled, squared and boxed letters that read as icons.
  • Small 2 styles — Superscript and subscript letters for titles and formulas.
  • Decorated 5 styles — Strikethrough, underline and slash marks added per letter.
  • Glitch 2 styles — Stacked combining marks for the broken-screen effect.
  • Flip 1 styles — Letters turned upside down, order reversed.

How to use the copied text

Instagram

Profile → Edit profile → Name or Bio → paste. The bio field accepts the decorated characters, the username field does not. Captions and comments work as well, and the styles stay intact when a post is shared.

TikTok

Edit profile → Name → paste. The 30 character limit still applies, and a few symbol styles get filtered — if a row turns into plain text after saving, try a bold or script style instead.

Discord and WhatsApp

Both accept the characters in nicknames, group names and messages. Discord may strip the extra combining marks used by glitch and zalgo, so those two are best kept for messages rather than nicknames.

Anywhere else

X, Telegram, Facebook, YouTube comments, email signatures, blog titles, game profiles and printable documents all render the same characters. If a page shows empty rectangles, the font it uses is missing that Unicode block.

Compatibility: what can go wrong

  • Boxes or question marks — the app’s font does not include that Unicode block. Every current phone OS does, but embedded webviews and game chats sometimes do not.
  • Text trimmed on save — glitch and zalgo add several combining marks per letter. Instagram counts them and may cut the string; keep them short.
  • Search stops working — decorated text is not the same as plain letters, so people cannot find your name by typing it normally. Use the style in the display name only.
  • Screen readers — assistive software may read every symbol separately. Keep important information in plain text.

Common questions

Do these fonts work in Instagram bios?

Yes. Instagram, TikTok, X, Discord, WhatsApp, Telegram and most other apps store the characters as plain Unicode, so the shape survives copy and paste. Highly decorated styles (glitch, zalgo) may be trimmed by Instagram because they contain many combining marks.

Why is my text not showing the same way after pasting?

The receiving app needs a font that contains the Unicode block we used. Android, iOS, Windows and macOS all ship with the mathematical alphabet and circled letter blocks, so the common styles are safe. Very old devices or some game chat boxes fall back to boxes.

Can I use the fancy text for a username?

Most platforms (Instagram, TikTok, X) only allow letters, numbers, full stops and underscores in usernames, so fancy characters are rejected there. Use them in the display name, the bio, captions and comments instead.

Is it really a font?

No. There is no font file involved: every character is replaced with a different Unicode symbol that looks like a letter. That is why it works everywhere without installing anything.

Can I mix two styles together?

Yes. Copy half a word from one row and half from another. The “Show more styles” button also generates random mixtures for you.

Is the generator free?

Yes, free and without an account. The site also includes a colour text to image generator that exports PNG files.
